Hip Hop Crew Philosophy
Hip Hop Crews have existed through director placement for many years at Joy in Motion. We believe it is important to create opportunities for dancers who are especially committed and who choose to make dance a significant part of their extracurricular lives. Through this program, dancers learn the value of commitment, teamwork, and collaboration.
Due to the significant growth in our Hip Hop program, we introduced auditions beginning in Fall 2024 for dancers who wish to be considered for a Crew class. Some higher-level classes may still include director placements. At the same time, non-Crew Hip Hop classes remain part of our schedule, ensuring there is a place for everyone who wants to dance.
Whether or not a dancer is selected for Crew, every dancer is a valued member of the Joy in Motion community. Our studio prioritizes acceptance, love, and belonging, and we strive to maintain a supportive environment where dancers can grow and encourage one another.
We encourage dancers to take risks, try their best, and approach the audition process with a positive attitude. Auditioning is an important skill used by performing artists throughout their careers, and we are proud to provide our dancers with the opportunity to gain experience in a supportive setting.
2026 Hip Hop Crew Levels
For the 2026–2027 school year, we are considering expanding from three crews to four:
Joy Crew Minis – Ages 10+
Joy Crew Juniors – Ages 12+
Joy Crew Squad – Ages 13+
Joy Crew Elite – Ages 14+
Notes:
Class days and times for Fall 2026 have not yet been determined.
Ages are approximate.
Dancers must be at least 10 years old at the time of auditions.
We’re excited to grow our program and provide opportunities for all skill levels!
Audition Requirements
Dancers who want to be considered for a Crew will be asked to:
Fill out an Audition Form by 8:00pm Friday, May 15, 2026
Bring a headshot and resume to the audition
Attend ONE of the following auditions:
Wednesday, May 27, 2026
5:30pm – 7:00pm → Joy Crew Minis & Juniors
7:30pm – 9:00pm → Joy Crew Squad & Elite
Saturday, June 6, 2026
11:00am – 12:30pm → Joy Crew Minis & Juniors
1:00pm – 2:30pm → Joy Crew Squad & Elite
What if I can’t be at auditions?
If you can’t be at one of the auditions, but still want to be considered for a Crew class, email Joy in Motion about the conflict AND:
Fill out the Audition Form.
Record yourself doing last year’s Hip Hop dance as a solo being creative in filling any holes which were a roll off, hold, etc.
We will provide you the music track if you don’t have it already.
Email your headshot and resume.
Please have the video submitted by Sunday, May 31 by noon.
When will audition results be announced?
We will announce Crew placement results by Monday, June 15, 2025.
