  • Early Childhood Classes – Non-Performing Creative Combos


    Storybook Dance – (3–5 y/o) This is the preschool dance class you’ve been looking for. This class weaves children’s books with dancing to inspire a love of both. Book selections range from the obvious—ex: Dancing Feet! by Lindsey Craig—to the unexpected—ex: Like a Windy Day by Frank & Devin Ash. Dance exercises and games help teach class etiquette and lay the foundation for traditional styles of dance. Wear soft, stretchy clothing, no jeans. Specific dance attire not required, but is also welcome. Bare feet, ballet slippers or jazz shoes. This class does not perform in our Spring Stage Show.  Short Sessions Coming Summer 2016! 


    Funky Freedom – (4–6+ y/o ) This class is designed to promote self-expression through music, creative movement, dance and acting exercises.  It strengthens a child’s trust in his/her own creative freedom and boosts their confidence. Various dance techniques are integrated in age appropriate ways so that children get a well-rounded and truly enjoyable dance experience.


    Early Childhood Classes – Classic Combinations


    Joy in Tap & Jazz – (4–6 y/o) A fun-filled class that exposes dancers to the foundational skills needed for both Tap and Jazz dance styles.  Students will improve their understanding of rhythm, overall body control and spatial awareness. Dance games and exercises will promote individual self-expression and boost self-confidence. Even if a dancer has taken a year of classes, this may be a good fit.


    Joy in Tap & Jazz – (6–7+ y/o) Continues the basics of both Tap and Jazz dance styles in a fun class aimed at improving rhythm and promoting self-expression while boosting self-confidence.  This class will ensure students can thrive at a faster age-appropriate pace of learning while still simply feeling the joy of dancing.  This is a great class to take for continued excitement and success or for a first dance class. 


    Joy in Ballet & Tap – (6–7+ y/o) Power and grace. Elegance & rhythm. Try on two dance styles with this class that promotes self-expression, boosts confidence, and reinforces class etiquette. This class moves at a faster pace for dancers already familiar with a class setting. This is a great class to take for continued dance fun or for a first dance class.


    Early Childhood Classes – Single Style (Hip Hop & Ballet)


    Boys Hip Hop – (Ages 6–10+ y/o) Get poppin’, lockin’, glidin’ and freestylin’ in the BOYS ONLY class! There will be floor work, strength training and more.  We want to continue breaking the myth that, “dancing is for girls.” Our goal is to build up their confidence, give them the ability to let go and encourage them to be themselves. We want them to show the world what they can do. (Athletic shoes required and knee pads are highly recommended.) Also listed in Youth Hip Hop.


    Hip Hop Boom – (6–7+ y/o) This class builds self-expression and boosts confidence. Hip Hop is a lifestyle and this dance style is often misunderstood. Boomin’ the tunes of appropriate current Top 40 music, this class will inspire young dancers. Also listed in Youth Hip Hop.


    Fairytale Garden Pre-Ballet – (3–5 y/o) Enter the world of ballet through the garden gate. Bourre with the bees and learn to coupe like the cricket in an imaginative pre-ballet class that will introduce classical ballet terminology, engage young creative minds, and build gross motor skills and spatial awareness.


    Enchanted Garden Ballet – (6–7+ y/o) Imagination meets training in this class that builds a bridge between creative movement and a traditional ballet class with barre work. Steps and terminology will be taught at a faster rate than in the Fairytale Garden Pre-Ballet class, though there will still be time for fun!


    Youth & Adult Classes Hip Hop


    Boys Hip Hop – (Ages 7–10+ y/o) Get poppin’, lockin’, glidin’ and freestylin’ in the BOYS ONLY class!     Hip Hop Bounce – (Beginning/Intermediate 8+ y/o) The energy created in this class will keep dancers bouncing even after class. While encouraging self-expression, it will inspire dancers to be themselves in a positive atmosphere while learning awesome dance moves.  It’s a confidence builder that both kids and parents will appreciate.


    Hip Hop Groove – (Intermediate 9+ y/o) Get your groove on in this high energy class filled with fun and increased difficulty. It will motivate and create continued confidence in both dance and life.  It encourages being yourself in a positive team playing atmosphere while doing the coolest dance moves with new and old friends.


    Hip Hop Jam – (Intermediate/Advanced 11+ y/o) This class is for the ones that love Hip Hop, have to dance, and love to challenge and express themselves. It strengthens their passion and commitment to life and dance while Jamming to popular music.  The energy is still high, the vibe is still positive, the moves more challenging and the class is even more fun.


    Hip Hop Swag – (Advanced 13+ y/o or teacher approval) With familiar warm-ups, strength training and combinations of the coolest new and old school moves, this is a high intensity class.  Some weeks will be street inspired, some will be fancy and fierce, and others will just be old school and flashback fun. This class is for the confident, dedicated and motivated.


    Hip Hop Gold – (Adults only Tuesday nights in Moraga and Thursday mornings in Lafayette) Get your groove and cardio on in this high energy class filled with fun because adults deserve to have fun too. It will motivate and create positive space for you in your life.  It encourages being yourself in a positive environment while doing the coolest new and old school dance moves with new and old friends.   Go to our Adult Hip Hop Gold page for details.


    Youth Classes – Jazz, Ballet, & Contemporary


    Jumpstart Jazz – (Beginning 7+ y/o) High energy fun meets traditional technique as dancers jump up and dance to upbeat, clean world & pop hits from artists such as Michael & Janet Jackson, Shakira, and Zap Mama. Dancers will learn classic theatrical jazz steps used in many dance contexts including school musicals.


    Jazzamatazz (Intermediate 9+ y/o) Add some razzle dazzle to your basic jazz skills. Students in this class have already mastered steps such as chasses, jazz squares, passé jumps and pas de burres, or are older and willing & able to catch up in a flash. Gain the strength, coordination and concentration needed to begin to pirouette, execute more intricate foot patterns and fly through the air.


    Broadway Jazz & Pizzazz – (Ages 8–13 y/o) This class will focus on acting, creating in-depth characters, improvisation, individuality and dance technique. Classes will include theater games, warm-ups, “across the floor” exercises and participants will learn dance numbers from popular musicals.


    Broadway Ballet – (Beginning/Intermediate 8+ y/o) Step up to show tunes at the barre in this classical ballet class moving at a swifter pace for slightly older dancers trying ballet for the first time, or younger dancers with previous traditional ballet training and the ability to keep on task. Explanations and exercises will be geared toward the memory and knowledge of students in the middle grade school ages.


    Contemporary Charisma – (Beginning 10+ y/o) What is charisma? Charm, presence, force of personality, & strength of character. What is contemporary? A popular form for trained dancers, contemporary mixes the control of ballet with the expressive torso movements of modern dance. Make your presence known while we use floor work, fall & recovery, improvisation & more to build strength in body and character!


    Youth Classes – Tap


    Tap Foundation – (Beginning 7+ y/o) This class focuses on tap basics through explanation and demonstration.  Even if a child has up to 2 years’ experience, it will strengthen their knowledge of rhythm, timing and traditional steps.  There will be warm-ups, “across the floor” exercises, games, basic combinations and an introduction into improvisation which will all create a solid foundation to further advance in their tap ability.


    Tap Progression – (Beginning/Intermediate 8+ y/o) This class is best for dancers with 1 or more years of experience and emphasizes basic technique.  Dancers will continue to work on the basics and progress further with their ability by strengthening their Foundation. Through familiar warm ups and previous knowledge, subtle differences will prove to challenge dancers and encourage them to face next level. The goal is to progress further in understanding rhythm & timing.


    Tap Rhythm – (Intermediate/Advanced 11+ y/o)  Having a good foundation and progressing through several consecutive tap classes will be when a dancer is ready for this class.  There will be familiar warm-ups, “across the floor” exercises, and will focus on mastering trickier steps, creating new steps with familiar rhythms through improvisation and trickier combinations.


    Tap-Tastic – (Advanced 13+ y/o) This class should consist of dancers who have mastered all the tap basics, can do any step on verbal command, and be able to handle some improvisation even if it’s uncomfortable.  This class is for the confident who want more difficult combinations, intricate timing, enjoy performing and who simply love tap dancing.


    Adult Tap Classics(Adults only – Discounts for 60+) You’re never fully dressed without a smile, and these classic tap steps never go out of style. Shuffle, shim-sham, and time step away because because adults (and seniors!) deserve to have fun too. All experience levels welcome to this non-performing class.
